Culturally Oriented Health Education for Low Literacy Populations

Health education for low literacy populations has been the recent focus of the Institute’s work in the area of health.

Current Work: 
Dharma Cortes, in collaboration with researchers at the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, is leading an evaluation of a culturally oriented intervention in diabetes education funded by the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services of HHS.   Contact: Dharma Cortés  

Lorna Rivera and Marcia Hohn.  The Impact of Participatory Health Literacy on People of Color with Low Literacy Skills.   NCMHD/NIH (P-20) funded grant to evaluate models of delivering health information in adult literacy programs offered in community based organizations in Boston.  Contact: Lorna Rivera
