Dr. Miren Uriarte, Director
Dr. Uriarte is a sociologist, specializing in applied sociology and race and ethnic relations. Her areas of expertise include social organization of minority communities; policy analysis focused on the differential impact of social policy on minority communities in general and on Latinos in the U.S. specifically; and program development and evaluation research in education, health care, and human services. She is a senior research associate at the Gastón Institute, and an associate professor at the College of Public and Community Service; she also teaches in the Ph.D. program in Public Policy at the McCormack Graduate School. She is author or coauthor of a number of books, monographs and articles on Latino studies, social policy and education. Dr. Uriarte was the institute's founding director from 1989- to 1993 and has been director of the Institute, this time around, since 2005.
